Authentic Mediterranean Cuisine has been a need of the hour in Mumbai for a long time now! After my experience at Aqaba, I can safely say that this place has been one of my superior experiences with Lebanese and Mediterranean Food!
Aqaba, has a very classy and enchanting ambience to it! Though I would say that it is a perfect utilization of the huge capacity that they have, the fact that they have given so much spaciousness to the restaurant, adds to the beauty of its appearance. The tables are very spaced out and there was a DJ playing the old school 60’s songs which added to my whole experience of the Brunch!
So basically, Chandon has teamed up with Aqaba and together they are giving us a “Chandon Sunday Brunch”! But kindly hold your horses there…. even though its a Brunch, its A la Carte and you can order whatever you want from their special Brunch Menu at their “Special” prices (which are far from modest, but worth it!)
I started my meal with a drink (no surprises there :P)… Their Mojito. Nothing extra ordinary, probably wouldn’t order it again for the price for which it is priced!
Next on the table came the salads! Now Aqaba has a pretty varied variety of salads. I opted for their “Smoked Chicken Caesar Salad” and the “Tuna Fish and Chickpea Salad”. The Tuna Fish Salad was pretty ordinary and lacked dressing. But man!! Their Smoked Chicken Caesar Salad just hits you in the right spots of your taste buds!! Juicy and yummy…. I wiped that plate of Caesar Salad Clean.
Post the Caesar Salad, we ordered the Hummus which is my sisters’ all time favorite. Though my favorite Hummus in the city is still the “Roasted Garlic Hummus” from Country Of Origin, this Hummus is definitely one of the better Hummus that we get in the City! Rich, smooth and creamy…. you could taste the individual flavors of the Tahini, Olive Oil and the garlic distinctly!
The Hummus then gave way to the array of the super amazing kebabs that Aqaba has to offer! Though Kebabs have now been adapted by India in our own Indianized manner, the Origin of the good old Kebab remains the Mediterranean region. The first Kebab that we had was the Jujeh Kebab, which was so frigging tender and creamy that I actually licked the cream off the plate without realizing where I was :P! (PS. No one saw) :P! The Moroccan Prawns that we had post the Jujeh Kebabb couldn’t match up to its antecedent beauty! Though the Prawns were quite flavorful, they were too charred for my liking! To wrap up the whole Kebab hoopla, we ordered the Fistikli Kebab, which basically is a lamb Kebab made with a beautiful pistachio marinade. The Fistikli Kebab was succulent, moist and juicy and took my taste buds to a whole new level of divinity!
In spite of being so so full, I couldn’t get myself to leave before trying their Main Course. We ordered a “Chicken Gyro Pizza” and a “Lamb Moussaka“. Each layer of the Moussaka was just so amazing! The Pizza too, was crispy and the toppings were sapid and tender!!
The original plan was – NO DESSERTS!…. And then I saw “Cheesecake”…. You Pull me, push me, kill me…. do whatever! I WILL ALWAYS MANAGE TO EAT THAT CHEESECAKE!!… So we ordered the “Baked Cheesecake”!! It was the perfect magnificent end to a super yummy meal that we needed!
So…. would I recommend Aqaba? Well, if you really know your Mediterranean Food, I would definitely urge you to try out this place! DO NOT expect any Indian flavors. Also this is going to be a little heavy on your pocket. So go prepared!
The Ambience, Food and the Music definitely makes the Aqaba Sunday Brunch the TO GO place for a chilled out and lazy Sunday Brunch!
