Saturday is all about cheating, isn’t it? Its about cheating yourself into thinking that you are going to get all your pending chores done on saturday…..its about cheating your liver into thinking that you can drink the copiuos amounts of alcohol that we do…..and so much more cheating! Well now, Olive Bar & Kitchen is giving you a chance to cheat your diet too! And trust me, this is one cheat meal that you do not want to miss!
Applauded for being consistently exceptional in the food that they serve, Olive is one of those places in Bombay where you can be sure of having nothing less than a memorably incrdible meal. Though it comes at a price, it is totally worth it. Olive had recently introduced what is known as the Saturday Cheat Brunch which will be served every Saturday. This Brunch is a set menu consisting of some decadent food very reasonable costs (considering the quality and intricacy of the food being served).
Apart from some great Cocktails and a huge variety of alcohol, there are 4 sections to this Brunch all of which are equally prodigious.
The Cheat On The Fly-
The ‘Cheat on the Fly’ section offers a mix of sweet and savory small plates which you can commence your meal with.
]The Organic Sweet Potato Mess is a dish made of sautéed sweet potatoes with bacon, chicken and cheese and was my favorite dish in this section.
The Salmon Bits With Preserved Lemon and Dil was another stellar dish on their menu with the Salmon and the Lemon being the perfect companions to the freshly baked bread they were sitting on.
The Soft Eggs on Serious Dough was perfect in its flavor but lacked some serious amount of seasoning to it!
The Eggs Benedict didnt really match up to the expectations we had after the brilliant dishes we had prior to it.
The Buns and Wiches-
The ‘Buns and Wiches’ section offers a selection of incredibly delicious and very quirky burgers and sandwiches, some of which I hadnt even heard of!
The Prawns and Guac was the most delicious thing of this section with crispy fresh tiger prawns and guacamole with pomogranate tasting like a dream combo and being served between an amazingly crunchy and delicious bread.
The Red Velvet Cupcake Fried Chicken took our curiousity to a different level altogether and yes, the taste, texture and look of the dish did match up to the fascination that we had built up in our heads! The Chicken was marinated with buttermilk and them crumb fried to absolute perfection. This chicken was served with delicate crumbs of redvelvet cupcake and some cold potato thinly sliced. Apart from the brilliance of the textures to this dish, the plating was something extraordinary and that just confirms the brilliance of Olive.
The Lamb and Greens Burger was delicious and that addition of crispy onion rings between breads elevated the deliciousness of the burger to another level altogether.
The Farmer’s Burnt End, inspite of being vegetarian, was one of my favorites of the whole brunch! The smoky and charred root vegetables were served with the most brilliantly amazing Burratta and the brilliance in the discrepancy of flavors to this dish was exceptional.
The Everything Breakfast was every meatlovers dream in a dish with and though the flavors were all therem the bacon not being crispy was a big let down for me!
The PG 13 Meal-
The PG 13 Meal section offers hearty items which are ideal for a laid back brunch.
The Ribs, Bibs and Bacon, was a brilliant take on the classic combination of BBQ ribs and bacon with baked potatoes and ranch dressing and the ribs were beautifully cooked with the meat literally falling off the bones!
The Spiced Bohemian Rhapsody was an intricate comination of coconut, kale, prawns served with sambal stew and my “konkani – prawn and coconut loving” self loved every bite of this one!
The Surfing The Turf which was a Farfalle with prawns and bacon, though pretty delicious, was left seeming ordinary in the brilliance of the rest of the dishes on the menu.
Desserts on this brunch menu consist of crowd favorites like different Pancakes and Waffles and are a perfect end to an epic brunch. Special mention to the delicious Cookiedough Cheesecake which is a must have!
Moreover, Olive has now started offering some amazing signature Blue Tokai caffeinated beverages such as their Coffee Tonic, French Press, Pour over and Cold Brew which are great to have post or during an amazing meal at Olive.
All in all, with the pricing of the food being between Rs.250 – Rs.695, the Saturday Cheat Brunch is a great way to try some delicious and exquisite food at an otherwise rightly expensive Olive. Out of the many ways in which you can spend your Saturday afternoon, this is definitely one of the better options!
Until next time….
