Desi Culture….while for many this is just a fun, quirky name, for me, it basically explains the very essence of this newly opened place in a fun & quirky way!
From the management of Bar Stock Exchange, comes Desi Culture, a newly opened chiller place in Kamala Mills (I know! Kamala Mills again!) :P. Located right next to the Kamala Mills BSE, this place is very underground and earthy in its look and ambiance. Nicely done interiors and great music, this place will make you wanna stay!
The food and drinks served at Desi Culture scream fully of “Desiness”! Be it the chaats, the cocktails, the appetizers or the thaalis…..the stuff here is definitely going to make you nostalgic.
They have a very unusual and interesting list of some signature cocktails that you must definitely try! The Peach Mantra, Desi Tharraa and the Minty Melon were my favorites of the lot! (The Peach Mantra specially!)
Desi Culture has a whole section in their menu dedicated to Chaats and if you are the type of person who doesnt eat Chaat at restaurants, think again! The Chaats that you get here, you will not get anywhere else! The Red Velvet Dhokla is a fabulous take on our good old dhokla using cream cheese and chutneys!
The Jalapeno Cheese Ragada Pattice too will make you drool ans sway with its beautiful flavor fusion.
My favorite though was the Deconstructed Chicken Tikka Sev Puri which is great combo of my absolute favorite dishes- Chicken Tikka and Sev Puri.
Inspite of the great to watch theater (using liquid nitrogen) behind the Hajmola Dahi Bhalla with Jaljeera, the flavors of it was not something I quite enjoyed.
The Tandoor section of the menu is another thing that you must absolutely try out! Both the Fish Tikka Tandoori (best ever) and the Galouti Kebab were authentic, melt in the mouth and absolutely delicious.
But what made me week in the knees was the gorgeous Reshmi Murgh Tikka. The creamy kebabs were topped with a foamy and flavorful masala omelette souffle which elevated this dish to another level altogether.
Although the oriental starters here are something you will get anywhere, the perfection of flavors in these dishes here is something not many can get right! The Burnt Garlic Prawns and the Three Flavor Fish are one of the finest oriental seafood preparations hat I have had in the city.
Though i was very enticed with most of their mains, I decided to opt for their Punjabi Thaal. Each and every item on the Thaal (except the Gaajar Halwa) were incredible, authentic and “you would wanna lick you fingers off” kind of delicious! The Butter Chicken and the Makhni Dal in particular were the BOMB!
Though both the Rose Kulfi (served with frozen rose petals and a jeera chikki) and the Old School Dark Chocolate Casatta are really awesome takes on the classics and though I wasn’t a big fan of the Jeera Chikki, the desserts were a fab end to an even better meal!
All in all, no matter what we were and what we have grown up to be, all of us in this city have a some Desiness in them (Cmon! You know it!) Desi Culture celebrated this very Desiness in the form of food and drinks and this place will definitely make the “Desi” in you very, very happy!
PS. They have a Raju Chinese Thaal which I am definitely going back to try! (High Five to all the HRites in the house!). 😛
Until next time….
