There is a very well known saying in Marathi which translates too “You don’t value the tings that are closest to you!”. I can totally relate my experience with Open House to this!
Located at a walking distance from where I live (Shivaji Park), Open House is one of the countable and one of the very first drinking places in the area (they are growing gradually though). Petite and cozy is the perfect way to describe the decor of this place! Nothing extravagant, yet done up in a way that is comfortable to people of all ages and preferences! I also have to say that I absolutely love the music they play here.
So, open house has recently revamped their menu and introduced some kickass stuff which is a mix of what people enjoy and something that is not available anywhere else in the city!
I truly believe that the cocktails served at Open House are very underrated! The Mandarin Mojito, the Strawberry Margarita and the very potent Bull Frog were really well made cocktails and you should definitely try them!
The Pink Chilli Butter Garlic Calamari is definitely one of the best versions of this dish I have tried! Buttery, garlicky and bloody delicious!
The Crispy Fried Bombay Duck is an absolute must have for bombil lovers like myself and is nothing but some crispy fried bombil served with crispy fried garlic!
The Prawns Popcorn, though not a tubful, are a great snack to munch on with your drinks!
The Stuffed Crab too is an absolutely brilliant rendition of crab and is most importantly, very easy to eat! (Its basically minced crab meat with cheese sauce stuffed inside a crab shell!)
The Cracked Pepper and Rosemary Kebab is creamy, luscious and served with a crispy garlicky naan. This one is a healthy meal in itself!
The two appetizers that I thought were avoidable were the Hot Garlic Sauteed Mushrooms and the Stuffed Potatoes which didn’t match up to the brilliance of the rest of the appetizers!
Open House manages to nail their seafood dishes in the most beautiful way and the Fish in Bhavnagiri Cream and the Maria Aunty’s Prawns Balchao exemplify that to the fullest!
The Mustard Prawns creamy and delicious and lay on a bed of some delicious spaghetti Aglio Olio!
The main however that I enjoyed most was surprisingly a vegetarian dish! The Saffron & Beetroot Risotto is a buttery and creamy risotto topped with some crispy okra and is a delicious, brilliant looking and textural dish!
Though the Old Monk Sundae sounded fabulous when we were explained what it is, it tasted just about good and was nothing worth all the calories that we had! Damn, the old monk soaked cake was boozy! 😛
All in all, inspite of a couple of misses, the food and cocktails at Open House managed to impress me and I am definitely going to take advantage of its close proximity to my house! They also have some great offers for every day of the week and you should check them out on their page before visiting!
Until next time….
